This chapter deals with how we behave online. In the brick-and-mortar world, our parents warned us to be on our best behavior and not to bring disgrace to the family name. We understood that we were ambassadors of our family each time we set foot out the door.
That world seems to no longer exist with the advent of the internet, cyberbullying, trolling, and other related vices. We become mean to others and make other’s lives miserable with unhelpful comments and attacks.
We often forget that the internet never forgets, and our past misbehavior can come back to haunt us in the future. Potential partners and employers can dig into our cyber history with a few clicks.
We represent our personal brand and reputation. What we do online has real offline consequences. Tweets have cost people jobs, deals, contracts, you name it.
Kindness and friendliness take us farther. The author advises us to avoid picking fights and rather go make something. Rather than wasting your anger on complaining and lashing out at people, keep your mouth shut and go do your work.
Appreciate others, and compliment them for their work. Make someone’s day special.
