Creativity is subtraction

The last chapter is simply about the fact that less is more. With information overload, there is the temptation to overthink it or get paralyzed by analysis. The best way to start is to start.

If you don’t have time, start with small blocks of time you have. If you don’t have a camera, use your phone to start. You don’t have money? start with what you have, and bootstrap as you go along, etc. Don’t make it complicated.

Don’t limit yourself or self-sabotage, looking for excuses why you can’t. Nothing is holding you back except yourself.

Don’t allow too much information to overwhelm you. Focus on one tiny bit and run with it.

Cut out the excuses and move. Run with what you have. Turn limitation into freedom. Artists are experts in this – painting with one color, making art from scrap, etc. Some cooking competitions test your skill by giving you a limited number of ingredients to come up with a recipe for a meal.

It is part of creativity, doing more with less. Allow your creative juices to go to work on what is available to you.
